Senhores(as),<br><br>Sou Anna Sera, pesquisadora (Programa de Bolsas Forma\u00e7\u00e3o de Novos Pesquisadores) no Centro de Estudos Nipo-Brasilieros (CENB) desde junho. Gostaria de fazer uma breve apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o sobre minha pesquisa e trajet\u00f3ria.<br><br>Como doutoranda em Estudos de Pol\u00edticas Educacionais e Sociologia na Universidade de Indiana, Bloomington (EUA), minha linha de pesquisa principal concentra-se na educa\u00e7\u00e3o de estudantes imigrantes e sua integra\u00e7\u00e3o sociocultural nas escolas e na sociedade em geral. Meu objetivo \u00e9 buscar uma melhor compreens\u00e3o dos v\u00e1rios obst\u00e1culos e oportunidades que esses estudantes de diversas origens lingu\u00edsticas, culturais e nacionais encontram em suas trajet\u00f3rias educacionais e de socializa\u00e7\u00e3o. Para minha disserta\u00e7\u00e3o, adoto uma abordagem comparativa entre o Brasil e o Jap\u00e3o para o estudo de caso de jovens brasileiros de ascend\u00eancia japonesa que s\u00e3o minorias \u00e9tnicas vis\u00edveis n\u00e3o s\u00f3 no Brasil, mas, recentemente, tamb\u00e9m no Jap\u00e3o. Por meio de meu trabalho como professora e pesquisadora no Jap\u00e3o e nos EUA, venho questionando a abordagem assimilacionista no qual \u00e9 (geralmente) baseado o processo de integra\u00e7\u00e3o dentro do pa\u00eds de acolhida (host country). Alternativamente, busco examinar as oportunidades educacionais dos jovens de origem imigrante e sua participa\u00e7\u00e3o social moldada pelas for\u00e7as dom\u00e9sticas e internacionais que influenciam as comunidades \u00e9tnicas e transnacionais (entre os pa\u00edses de acolhida e os pa\u00edses de origem).<br><br>No CENB, estou investigando a educa\u00e7\u00e3o dos descendentes japoneses no Brasil, o que inclui analisar o ambiente educacional dos filhos e descendentes de imigrantes japoneses desde o per\u00edodo pr\u00e9-Segunda Guerra Mundial at\u00e9 os dias de hoje, atrav\u00e9s da an\u00e1lise dos arquivos do CENB, observa\u00e7\u00f5es e entrevistas. Em particular, gostaria de analisar as fun\u00e7\u00f5es exercidas pelas institui\u00e7\u00f5es governamentais locais brasileiras e japonesas e as v\u00e1rias organiza\u00e7\u00f5es da comunidade nipo-brasileira local que estabelecem e administram diversas escolas e programas educacionais. Considerando essa diversidade de provedores de ensino, busco contribuir para a discuss\u00e3o sobre a influ\u00eancia de um ambiente educacional diversificado na forma\u00e7\u00e3o da identidade e integra\u00e7\u00e3o social dos descendentes japoneses brasileiros.<br><br>Sou paulistana filha de pais japoneses (issei) e cursei o ensino fundamental (pr\u00e9-escola at\u00e9 a oitava s\u00e9rie) em S\u00e3o Paulo. Terminei o ensino m\u00e9dio e gradua\u00e7\u00e3o no Jap\u00e3o e me mudei para os EUA para fazer a p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o. Em diferentes fases e em locais distintos, eu mesma encontrei diversas perspectivas de como a minha educa\u00e7\u00e3o deveria tomar rumo, refletindo as diversas expectativas e preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es das partes envolvidas: o desejo dos meus pais de dar \u00e0 filha a oportunidade de ser bem-sucedida tanto no Brasil como no Jap\u00e3o, assim como aprender a cultura e l\u00edngua deles; e o desenvolvimento de minha pr\u00f3pria identidade Brasileira e Japonesa. A sociedade ao redor tamb\u00e9m faz seu papel quando programas e pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas ressaltam narrativas de futuros cidad\u00e3os globais ou que conectam dois pa\u00edses, e tamb\u00e9m aquelas que destacam os obst\u00e1culos, como os enfrentados por filhos de decass\u00e9guis, caracterizados como sem ra\u00edzes ou double-limited, que passam por dificuldades de ajuste e comunica\u00e7\u00e3o em ambas as sociedades. Essas quest\u00f5es fazem parte do passado e presente, mas tamb\u00e9m do futuro. S\u00e3o relevantes aos meus dois filhos, que compartilho com meu esposo americano descendente de japoneses e coreanos, e muitas outras crian\u00e7as que vivem em um tempo de globaliza\u00e7\u00e3o das oportunidades educacionais e de carreiras. Acredito que sempre temos a aprender com as experi\u00eancias e hist\u00f3ria de nossos ancestrais e antecedentes.<br><br>Agrade\u00e7o sua aten\u00e7\u00e3o.<br><br>Anna Sera<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna Sera is Researcher (2018-19) of the Center for Japanese-Brazilian Studies, S\u00e3o Paulo (Centro de Estudos Nipo-Brasileiros: CENB-SP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a doctoral candidate in Education Policy Studies and Sociology at Indiana University, Bloomington (U.S.), Sera&#8217;s primary research agenda focuses on the education of immigrant-origin students and their sociocultural integration in schools and society at large. Her dissertation study examines immigrant students&#8217; integration in schools using a comparative approach between Brazil and Japan. She investigates the case of Brazilian youth with Japanese ancestry who are visible ethnic minorities not only in Brazil but, more recently, also in Japan. Through her work as a teacher and researcher in Japan and the U.S., she has challenged the assimilationist approach that gives centrality to integration within the host-country. Instead, she has examined immigrant youth&#8217;s educational opportunities and social participation as shaped by the domestic and international forces that influence ethnic and transnational (between host- and home-countries) communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At CENB-SP, Sera is investigating the immigrant education of Japanese Brazilian children in Brazil. This includes a historical examination of the educational environment of Japanese Brazilian children since pre-World War II times until today through analysis of CENB&#8217;s archives, observations and interviews. In particular, she looks at the roles and relationships of Brazilian, Japanese local government institutions and various local Japanese ethnic community organizations, which established and administered schools and related educational programs. Considering such diversity of educational providers, she considers the influence of a diversified educational environment for the identity formation and social integration of the children of Japanese Brazilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sera was born and raised in S\u00e3o Paulo until middle school as the daughter of Japanese parents, then completed high school and undergraduate studies in Japan, and moved to the U.S. to pursue graduate studies. At different stages and in different places, she encountered varied perspectives on how her own education should take shape, reflecting the diverse expectations and concerns of the parties involved: her parents\u2019 desire to give their daughter the opportunity to succeed both in Brazil and Japan, as well as learning their culture and language; and the development of her own Brazilian and Japanese identity. Sera maintains that the surrounding society also plays a role when programs and public policies highlight narratives of future global citizens or personnel that connect two countries, as well as those that highlight obstacles, such as those faced by children of dekaseguis, characterized as \u201crootless\u201d or \u201cdouble-limited,\u201d which are experiencing adjustment and communication difficulties in both societies. These issues are part of the past and present, but also of the future. They are relevant to her two children, whom Sera shares with her American husband of Japanese and Korean heritage, and many other children living in a time of globalization of educational and career opportunities.
